Parentage: (martagon × unknown) X ‘Hantsing’ R: F. Tarlton (1972), G: F. Tarlton (c. 1976), N: F. Tarlton (1988), I: Honeywood Lilies, REG: F. Tarlton (1988) Inside deep red (53A), tepal-tips almost black; outside of outer tepals strong purplish red (63A), outside of inner tepals deep red (53A) with a stripe of strong purplish red (63A); spots absent; nectaries strong purplish red (63A); pollen strong orange (26A). Tepals 37 × 15 mm, margins smooth, tips strongly recurved. Lvs whorled, 95 × 30 mm, mid green. Stems 1.2 m, dark green, with 16 or more fls. June.
These have done well with ample watering this spring, I believe that may be the key with martagons is watering frequently during the growing season.
The tepals as they age are almost black in shaded color. Let us not forget the shine on the thick structure of this stellar mart. I do not have anything darker than this martagon next to the elusive Black Prince….
4 feet tall once established with a unique inflorescence.
