Yellow Bunting

From all the information that I have done a search on, there is very little except I am thrilled to have this short bunting

R I (c-d) pre 1944 Skinner F.L. pumilum x unknown ( poss monadelphum)

-Lilium pumilum ‘Yellow Bunting strain is a nice yellow form of the species, originally described as a hybrid of unknown origin.

-Lilium pumilum ” YELLOW BUNTING”   A hybrid of the Coral Lily, the record of whose male parent was lost. This hybrid is very much like the seed parent in every respect excepting the color of the flowers, which is Bunting Yellow or Canary Yellow of the Royal Horticultural Society Color Chart –Seedings of the second generation that have flowered to date have all come quite true to color, and the third generation has already germinated underglass , so we are safe to assuming that, with little care, this strain can be kept true to color of pod parent. It is very distinctive from the variety known as Golden Gleam, forms resembling which can sometimes be segregated from the ordinary L. pumilum when it is grown in sufficiently large populations.

Authors notes –There have multiplied numerous times and each season the flower is cut off so that it will not set seed and that the smaller bulbs do not degenerate as quickly. This year, their is a section of bulbs that will be dug for listing. This is the second time Hartle-Gilman Gardens has had the opportunity to offer this beauty. Please remember that this lily can live for about 5 years or so and to replenish your supply, toss the seed at the base of your colony for continuous blooms for many seasons, Because they are immediate epigeal germination, they grow quick. Yellow Bunting blooms about a week earlier than my Coral Lily, around the same time as my L. monadelphum does

-SPECIES WILD LILY — tHOUGH AT ONE TIME TO BE THE RESULTS OF A CROSS WITH LILIUM MARTAGON ALBUM, THE YELLOW FORM IS NOW REGARDED AS A SPECIES. THE SMALL FRAGRANT FLOWERS ARE BRIGHT CANARY YELLOW AND ARE GENERALLY UNSPOTTED. IT IS SELF FERTILE AND AS WITH ITS MORE FAMILIAR COUSIN, FLOWERS IN 18 MONTHS FROM GERMINATION. AT THE TIME OF THIS PUBLISHING IT WAS NOTED THAT THIS IS THE LILY OF CHOICE FOR THE NATIVE SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLIES. ONE PHOTO IS THAT OF EDDIE MCRAE
