Description
This is a species that I acquired by happenstance. I had seen a post where someone had purchased lily bulbs from a market and mentioned that they could be a species, Well, I have a fondness for all species and I thought I would give it a try. Shuang Hur is a market not far from me that said after calling that they had something called yurine and baihe. I had heard of the bulls from Japan Yurine but not Baihe— So there i was driving to see what I could get, I hoped to buy them all. When I arrived, they had two bags left of creamy white bulbs that were firm with flat tight more rounded scales. They were in what appears like sawdust.
What bloomed is an orange and mostly spotless lily that was about 2 feet tall at best. I have consulted with some and believe it is L. davidii unicolor. Though not the typical Yurine that I had expected, a nice surprise.
These will grow lovely after a couple of seasons of getting established. They are sweet and have a beautiful pyramidal inflorescence — I am rather tickled
I also have had the pleaseure of ordering a few from my grower so it will be a fun experiment to compare. But anyone looking for a sweet species that grows well in Minnesota, crevice or garden pathways, this is a great one to get established.
