Description

L. Michiganense Native Species of Minnesota is a sought out species.

My journey began when I collected wild seed in 2019 and had tossed a baggie which had the seed and a small handful of peat into the greenhouse for further care and it fell to the floor.  So,  truly—-Out of sight, out of mind perhaps, though ignored, the baggie was discovered in 2021. YES, ALMOST TWO SEASON LATER—It was discovered by my youngest granddaughter who called it ‘HER FLOWER’. ‘HER FLOWER’ is now available but please remember, true to name L. michiganense. —– Wild thing I think I love you——
I have had the pleasure of finding sources of different wild seed, that I have since added to the gardens to increase my meadows for future crosses. Seed production looks very promising with ‘HER FLOWER’ for this fall 2025. My plan is to use the same method of madness of tossing and forgetting…

This species likes a damp environment, well drained — I have many test plots of these growing and I have found that the best space still,  is near a down spout of HgG headquarters.  The water from rain creates moisture that is needed. I also have a plot growing under a window air conditioner of my 1930’s bungalow home. The exhaust of the air conditioner has actually fed moisture to my ever growing species…. Take a look at Hartle-Gilman’s project with some helpful hints and  instructions that have been gathered at the site listed below for further information of a species/native home garden care that can very easily be an addition for your own private collections.  https://minnesotamartagonlilies.com/minnesota-native-lilium-species-project/
